Easiest way to determine if you pool is leaking is to perform a bucket test. Simply place a bucket inside your pool and fill the water to the same level. Check the level of the water after 12 or 24 hours. If the pool water level has dropped more than the bucket level then you have a leak.
If the water levels are the same in both the bucket and the pool, then you may be losing water due to evaporation.
Another great use for the bucket test is to help determine if the leak is inside the pool (the liner) or in the plumbing. Perform the standard bucket test above first to determine if you have a leak. If you do, then perform a second bucket test.
Close all the plumbing - like you would do to close for winter. Once all the plugs are in place, check the water levels in the pool an bucket. If the pool level has dropped, then you most likely have a leak inside the pool. If the pool and bucket levels are the same, then you may have a leak in your plumbing.
Please note, if it rains, you may need to repeat the bucket test.
If after performing the bucket test you discover your pool is leaking inside the pool, please give us a call and we can help
